Abstract: Language as Social and Cultural Data
Text and speech reflect social phenomena and cultural dynamics. With the availability of large volumes of digital language materials the study of language as social and cultural data recently has begun to be integrated in research agendas in a wide number of scholarly fields. It also has led to new initiatives for multidisciplinary research. The talk will present some case studies and in addition will point to the benefits of infrastructural support for researchers working in the various fields. The plans for furthering the emerging collaboration between European data infrastructures in the social sciences and humanities such as CESSDA and CLARIN will be outlined as well.
